Joram Heijmans
Joram Heijmans is a musician, performer and maker based in Utrecht, and a graduate of the Musician 3.0 program at the Utrecht Conservatory. His main instruments are bass and guitar, which he uses to move fluidly between styles and atmospheres. He plays guitar in the Daniël Okiror Band, blending African genres such as sebene, soukous, and afrobeat, alongside influences from rock and funk. As the bassist for Zebra Lasers, he delivers danceable, catchy, and driving music with a krautrock-inspired groove and a strong rhythmic pulse.
As both player and creator, Joram searches for conviction in sound: in repetition, groove, and the intensity of each note. He’s drawn to contrast: between the familiar and the unexpected, the melodic and the dissonant. His work often explores unusual tonalities and offbeat harmonic progressions, balancing accessible hooks with a sense of strangeness or friction.
Beyond the stage, he is involved in community-based music projects, working with diverse groups including people living with dementia, young people, mental health clients, and those experiencing homelessness. He approaches music as an inclusive practice: open and accessible to all.
